Dakota to join IAF vintage squadron next year

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to add a Dakota DC3 aircraft in its vintage squadron next year as a refurbished DC3 with IAF colours is now flying over the UK. Over the next couple of months, IAF would have to decide how to bring home the aircraft—a gift from Parliament member Rajeev Chandrasekhar—and give the pilots some practice time before the aircraft fly at the 2017 edition of Aero-India. There are two options before the IAF—either to dismantle the aircraft, ferry it and reassemble in India, or fly it straight to India with multiple stopover in between. “Its a logistic issue to be decided by the IAF,” Chandrasekhar told Deccan Herald. The Harvard aircraft of IAF vintage squadron was carried by a C-17 Globemaster-III in its belly and assembled in India. Russia, India to hold naval drills in early December

Russian ships will arrive at Visakhapatnam port on the southeast coast of India in the state of Andhra Pradesh on December 6 to take part in the Indra joint naval maneuvers, a source close to the Indian Ministry of Defense told TASS on Tuesday. "The exercise will be held from December 7 to 12 this year; the welcoming ceremony for the detachment of the Russian Navy ships is planned for December 6," he said. According to him, taking part in the drills from the Russian side will be a missile cruiser, a destroyer, a large sea tanker, a tugboat and two naval helicopters, and from the Indian side - a multipurpose frigate, a destroyer, an anti-submarine plane, a Coast Guard plane, two training planes and a helicopter. To attract youth, Army embarks on para expedition

Agra: In a bid to attract youth into the force, the Indian Army's Paramotor Expedition was flagged off by Brigadier V Saini from Agra on Tuesday. It is the initiative of the airborne infantry regiment of the Army's 17 Parachute Field Regiment. A 10-member team led by Major Surya Pratap Singh will complete the 1,250km expedition by December 1 in Nashik's Artillery Centre Road.  Cruising at speeds of around 60-80kmph at an altitude of 8,000 feet , the gliding team will course via six halting points in Gwalior, Talbehat, Dhana (Sagar), Bhopal, Mhow and Dhule. Each halt is nearly 200km apart.  Weighing more than 100kg, the European designed paramotors, also known as paragliders, will be flown by 2 men at a time. The rest of the team will track their movement through visual contact and GPS coordinates. Each paramotor has fuel capacity of 25 litres and will cover 1km in less than a minute.
