Meet the Chennai boys building UGVs for the Indian Army

Chennai-based start-up Torus Robotics is manufacturing Unmanned Ground Vehicles to help ferry heavy loads for the Indian Army “You think of ‘unmanned’, and you think of drones, in the sky,” says 25-year-old Vibhakar Senthil. In Ambattur — widely regarded as the Detroit of India — his start-up Torus Robotics is set to change that, by making Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) for the Indian Army.  At the Aero India 2021 in Bengaluru, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Torus Robotics signed an MOU with the Government, on the joint development of UGVs for the armed forces with BEML Limited.  “With BEML, we are now developing a high-altitude Logistics UGV with 750 kilograms payload. It will be an all-terrain vehicle to supply to and from bases [without the need of human presence] in bad weather conditions, for the Northern Command,” says Vibhakar. India, Singapore to further step-up defence ties, ink submarine rescue pact

Rajnath Singh at the fifth defence  ministerial dialogue with Singapore India and   Singapore   on Wednesday decided to further boost interaction between their armed forces as well as cooperation in military technologies and industries. The two countries have also inked an implementing agreement on submarine rescue support between their navies. "India is fortunate to have a defence partner like Singapore. The interaction will benefit both countries on many bilateral issues that are being pursued to further strengthen our special relationship," said Rajnath Singh, after holding the fifth defence ministerial dialogue with his counterpart Ng Eng Hen through video conferencing. PM Modi pays tribute at National War Memorial on Vijay Diwas

Defence minister Rajnath Singh and home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday extended their wishes to countrymen on the occasion of the Vijay Diwas. The ministers saluted the bravery and courage of the Indian Army. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on the 50th anniversary of the 1971 that made Bangladesh an independent country. The day is celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’. ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ - a symbol of victory - was also lit by the Prime Minister. BEML to provide 1,512 mine ploughs for Indian Army's battle tank T-90

Defence ministry will procure mine plough (MP) devices from BEML at a cost of Rs 557 crore for Indian Army. Representative image The defence ministry on Monday sealed a contract with state-run Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) for procurement of 1,512 mine plough (MP) devices at a cost of Rs 557 crore for the Indian Army's main battle tank T-90, officials said. A mine plough is a device that helps tanks clear minefields. The defence ministry said the mine ploughs will be fitted on T-90 tanks. "The Acquisition Wing of Ministry of Defence signed a contract with the BEML for procurement of 1,512 mine ploughs (MP) for T-90 tanks at an approximate cost of Rs 557 crore. The contract has Buy and Make (Indian) categorisation with a minimum of 50 per cent indigenous content in make portion of the contract," it said in a statement. Indian Army paratrooper (Livefist) Indian Army's brave paratroopers can be seen directly airdropping themselves into Ladakh's Stakna in a new video released by Livefist Defence. In the video 14 Indian Army paratroopers can be seen diving into the skies from the exit ramp of C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. Services can now get special financial powers for capital acquisition
