Proposal to increase retirement age, cut down pension in armed forces irks officers, veterans

A note by the Department of Military Affairs, headed by CDS General Bipin Rawat, proposes changes to the retirement age and pension policy, which could potentially cut costs. Representative Image A note by the Department of Military Affairs (DMA), headed by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat, on a proposed new retirement and pension policy has caused serious heartburn in the military with indications that the three services are not on board. The note, which is doing the rounds on social media, is dated 29 October and seeks for a draft Government Sanction Letter for changes in retirement profile and pension entitlements. The proposed rules will be applicable to all equivalent ranks across the three services. As proposed in the note, the retirement age of colonels (other than that of the Army Medical Corps and Military Nursing Service) will be increased to 57 years from the current 54. China wants to know the reason behind Gorkhas joining Indian Army, funds Nepalese NGO to study

China has funded 12.7 lakh Nepalese Rupees to a non-government organisation (NGO) based in Kathmandu, to carry out a study on the motivation behind Gorkha community members joining Indian Army. Gorkha Regiment - Khukri inspection Sources stated that in June first week, China's Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi funded a Nepalese NGO, China Study Centre (CSC), to conduct a study on Nepalis being recruited in the Gorkha regiment of Indian Army. A fund of 12.7 lakh Nepalese rupees was allocated by the Chinese Embassy for this task. There are seven Gorkha regiments in the Indian Army comprising 28,000 Nepali Citizens.  The regiments have a total of 39 battalions. In total, there are 11 Gorkha regiments, out of which four went to the British Army after Independence. Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon (@ChinarcorpsIA/Twitter) Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, who was the commander of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps till recently, has been appointed as the director general of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and Deputy Chief of Integrated Staff (Intelligence) under the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat in the Ministry of Defence’s Department of Military Affairs. The DIA, which was created in 2002, is responsible for providing and coordinating military intelligence for the Indian Armed forces. The agency was created after the recommendation from a Group of Ministers which looked into lapses leading to the Kargil intrusion in 1999. The DIA also forms part of the Multi Agency Centre, an umbrella of organisations which looks into infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
