China wants to know the reason behind Gorkhas joining Indian Army, funds Nepalese NGO to study

China has funded 12.7 lakh Nepalese Rupees to a non-government organisation (NGO) based in Kathmandu, to carry out a study on the motivation behind Gorkha community members joining Indian Army. Gorkha Regiment - Khukri inspection Sources stated that in June first week, China's Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi funded a Nepalese NGO, China Study Centre (CSC), to conduct a study on Nepalis being recruited in the Gorkha regiment of Indian Army. A fund of 12.7 lakh Nepalese rupees was allocated by the Chinese Embassy for this task. There are seven Gorkha regiments in the Indian Army comprising 28,000 Nepali Citizens.  The regiments have a total of 39 battalions. In total, there are 11 Gorkha regiments, out of which four went to the British Army after Independence. Retirement Age of Troops in Army, Air Force & Navy Set to Increase, Says CDS General Rawat

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has said that the retirement age of jawans in the Army, airmen in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and sailors in the Navy will be extended as it could benefit nearly 15 lakh men of all three armed forces.  “We are soon bringing a policy to extend the service profile of the men (forces nomenclature for troops) and have an increased minimum retirement age,” said General Rawat in an exclusive interaction with The Tribune yesterday. On being asked if he was looking to cut down the manpower costs as rising salaries and pensions were taking away a large portion of the budget, General Rawat said, “I am looking at manpower costs. Why should a jawan serve for just 15 or 17 years, why cannot he serve for 30 years? India’s lockdown, affecting some 1.3 billion people, is the largest national policy response of its type to the ongoing pandemic in the world. Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon To Head Defence Intelligence Agency Under CDS General Bipin Rawat-Led Department Of Military Affairs

Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon (@ChinarcorpsIA/Twitter) Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, who was the commander of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps till recently, has been appointed as the director general of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and Deputy Chief of Integrated Staff (Intelligence) under the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat in the Ministry of Defence’s Department of Military Affairs. The DIA, which was created in 2002, is responsible for providing and coordinating military intelligence for the Indian Armed forces. The agency was created after the recommendation from a Group of Ministers which looked into lapses leading to the Kargil intrusion in 1999. The DIA also forms part of the Multi Agency Centre, an umbrella of organisations which looks into infiltration of terrorists from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
