Indian Coast Guard to celebrate 45th Raising Day today

Since its inception in 1977, the ICG has saved over 10,000 lives and apprehended around 14,000 miscreants. The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) will celebrate its 45th Raising Day on Monday. With just seven surface platforms in 1978, the ICG has grown into the fourth largest coast guard with 156 ships and 62 aircraft in its inventory. The ICG has targeted force levels of 200 surface platforms and 80 aircraft by 2025. Since its inception in 1977, the ICG has saved over 10,000 lives and apprehended around 14,000 miscreants . During the pandemic, the ICG maintained a 24X7 vigil in the Exclusive Economic Zone, by deploying about 50 ships and 12 aircraft daily. In 2020, ICG seized contraband valued at Rs 1,500 Crore and apprehended over 10 foreign fishing boats with 80 miscreants illegally operating in the Indian EEZ. Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation releases footage of first serial Su-57 jet fighter

Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) has published video footage of production and flight of the first serial Su-57 fifth generation multipurpose fighter jet. During the Single commissioning day, Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu was told that the plane has already been produced and handed over to the Ministry of Defense within the contract on shipment of 76 machines. The corporation disclosed that the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant continues to prepare and deploy serial production of the plane. Starting in 2021, the corporation intends to increase the production rate of planes of this type.

Boeing gets United States government approval to offer F-15EX to India

Boeing has received a licence from the U.S. government to offer its F-15EX fighter jet to the Indian air force Boeing will compete with Sweden's Gripen and France's Rafale among others for the Indian air force's plan to buy 114 multi-role aircraft to replace its Soviet-era fleet. Ankur Kanaglekar, director, India Fighters Lead, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, told reporters discussions on the F-15EX had taken place earlier between the two governments. "Now that we have the marketing licence it allows us to talk to the Indian Air Force directly about the capability of the fighter. We have started doing that in a small way," he said, adding conversations were expected to gather pace during the Aero India show next week. India and the United States have built close defence ties, with the Indian military buying over $20 billion worth of weapons in the last 15 years. India gets 6K Negev LMGs from Israel, to add more firepower to forces

India had signed a contract with Israel Weapons Industries (IWI) on March 19, 2020 to procure 16,479 LMGs under Fast Track Procedure. With the disputed border with China and Pakistan active at the same point of time, the guns will add more firepower to the deployed frontline troops. The Negev 7.62X51mm Light Machine Gun is a combat proven weapon and currently used by several countries around the globe. This LMG will greatly enhance the lethality and range of a soldier vis-a-vis the presently used weapon. Indian Army received first lot of consignment of 6,000 quantities in mid January this year in Mumbai. The guns have been shifted to Jabalpur and is undergoing proper inspection. The rest of the guns is expected to arrive by March end of this year. Three more Rafale jets arrive in India from France

A third batch of three Rafale fighter jets landed in India on Wednesday evening after flying non-stop from France, in a further boost to the strike capability of the Indian Air Force when India and China are engaged in a bitter border standoff in eastern Ladakh.  With the arrival of the new batch, the number of the Rafale aircraft has increased to 11.  "The third batch of three Rafale aircraft landed at an IAF base a short while ago. They flew over 7000Km with in-flight refuelling. The aircraft got airborne earlier in the day from #IstresAirBase in France. The 13th edition of Aero India, the defence ministry’s biannual air show, will see heightened government pitch for indigenous aircraft designs. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will formally sign India’s largest defence orders for Indian industry, a Rs 48,000 crore contract for 83 LCA Tejas Mark 1 aircraft on February 3. The contract--73 combat jets in the Mark 1A configuration and 10 Mark 1 trainers--will be signed on the inaugural day of the three-day Aero India 2021 air show beginning in Bengaluru on February 3. This contract, the single-largest order for an indigenously produced defence platform after the indigenous nuclear submarine project, was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on January 13. More firepower to IAF, 3 more Rafales to be added to fleet

The three new additions will add to the current fleet of eight Rafale jets. Three Rafale combat aircraft will arrive in India on Thursday after flying non-stop from France, an Indian Air Force official said on Wednesday.   The three Rafale combat aircraft, manufactured by French company Dassault Aviation, took off from Istres in France on Wednesday. The Indian Embassy in France tweeted that three more Rafale jets have taken off from Istres for a non-stop flight to India with mid-air refuelling. "Adding more strength to India's air power. Russia 'welcomes' Biden proposal to extend New START treaty

Russia said Friday it welcomed a proposal by US President Joe Biden to extend New START, a landmark nuclear arms reduction agreement due to expire next month. Representative Image The accord is the last arms control agreement between the former Cold War rivals but negotiations to extend it had faltered under Biden's predecessor Donald Trump. "We can only welcome the political will to extend this document," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters. Peskov added however that any decision to extend the pact would depend on "the details of the proposal" from Washington. He said Moscow needed more time to study the US administration's offer. White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Thursday that the US would lobby for a five-year extension to the pact.
