Indian Army provides free coaching to J-K students under Super 30 program

The Indian Army has been providing free coaching for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) to students from Jammu and Kashmir under the Super 30 program. The program, the first of its kind in the state, was started on March 15, 2018, with the aim to provide coaching for MBBS and NEET courses to poor students from far-flung areas of the state. The managing trustee of Super 30 Coaching Centre, Dr Rohit Srivastava said, "Coaching is provided to poor students who want to crack medical and engineering exams but they do not have the financial facilities or resources to do the same. CONTEXT India has lashed out at Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) (formerly Organization of the Islamic Conference) and rejected unwarranted references about Jammu & Kashmir made in resolutions adopted at the 47th Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) session. India has said that OIC has “ no locus standi in matters strictly internal to India, including that of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir”. Remembering the Battle of Budgam, Indo-Pakistan War - 1947 The Battle of Budgam was a defensive encounter which took place at Budgam in the Kashmir valley on 3 November 1947 between troops of the Indian Army whose strength was just around 50 and tribal raiders from Pakistan who were 500+ in number during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. The battle was significant in that one company of 4th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment under Major Somnath Sharma , who won a posthumous Param Vir Chakra , halted the momentum of advancing tribal "lashkars", though being killed to the last man and caused heavy casualties on the attacking force. A notification says the government may on written request of an Army officer not below the rank of Corp Commander declare an area as Strategic Area within a local area. Representative image The Centre has notified new laws, including fresh land laws, for the Union Territories (UTs) of J&K and Ladakh and omitted any precondition on purchase of land in J&K, as existed under Article 370 for the outsiders. Under the newly introduced J&K Development Act (XIX of 1970) , it notified that “omit, being permanent resident of the State”. In a fresh notification, Section 30 of and Part VII of the State Land Acquisition Act , Samvat 1990 was substituted by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (30 of 2013) . Introducing the J&K Agrarian Reforms Act, the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act, 1987 was also substituted by the Indian Forest Act, 1927 (16 of 1927). Construction of 14 km long Srinagar-Leh Zojila tunnel begins with the First Blast - 15 years after project was first conceived

Jammu and Kashmir Official Languages Bill - J&K to have 5 official languages

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a bill under which Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The minister pointed out that 53.26 per cent of the population of Jammu and Kashmir speaks the Kashmiri language. Reddy said, "26.64 per cent of the population of the UT speaks Dogri while Urdu, which is currently its official language, is spoken only by 0.16 per cent population there. Still, for the last 70 years, Urdu continues to be the official language of Jammu and Kashmir," he said, adding that 2.36 per cent population in the UT speaks Hindi. "Contact tracing" is the new strategy being adopted by the Army in terror-hit Kashmir Valley and under it, friends and relatives of local terrorist recruits or those killed in encounters are located and counselled not to take up the gun in a rush of blood, a top Army official said here.
