Vice admiral John Thomas Goslin Pereira (1923–2020), one of our last surviving officers who served during the World War II, passed away after a brief illness in Mumbai on Monday. He was 97. He was commissioned into the Indian Navy in May 1944 after two years of sea training in England. He went on to be trained as a naval engineer in Plymouth and Greenwich before returning to India and serving in Hunt Class and War Emergency Class Destroyers. He came to the limelight in the rank of a commander when he was the engineer officer of the flagship Cruiser INS Delhi and then the newly commissioned INS Mysore.
