New Chinese village in Bhutan? A tweet by a Chinese journalist starts a row, Thimphu denies encroachment

Satellite imagery analysts claimed the village was two kilometres inside Bhutanese territory. The Chinese journalist has since deleted his tweet about the village. Representational image of Chinese soldiers | Photo: D. Myles Cullen | Commons A Chinese journalist has sparked controversy after tweeting, and then deleting, the map of a new village of the country.  Satellite imagery analysts claimed the village was two kilometres inside Bhutanese territory and near the Doklam Plateau , but Bhutan has contested the analysis, asserting that there is no Chinese encroachment on its territory. “There is no Chinese village on Bhutanese territory,” Major General V. Namgyel, Bhutan’s envoy to India, told ThePrint. Asked if the village was on Chinese land, he repeated that all he can say is that there are no Chinese villages on Bhutanese land. To combat this Chinese engineers have constructed a small retaining wall, I assume designed to keep any flood water out of the village. I'm not sure I...

OCTOBER 20 - NATIONAL SOLIDARITY DAY

National Solidarity Day is celebrated on 2 0th Octobe r every year to remember the national integrity shown by Indian citizens in the face of defeat in the Sino-Indian war. 20th October 1962 the war began when People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China attacked India at the Himalayan borders in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh simultaneously. This became a wake-up call for India to establish an efficient armed force for border security. National Solidarity day is a reminder to all Indians of the significance of unity and integrity in protecting our nation. This year National Solidarity Day 2020 will be on 20th October 2020, Tuesday. Sino-Indo War (20 Oct 1962 – 21 Nov 1962) After regaining their Independence there was a constant boundary dispute between China and India as there was no clear border separation. Sixty Years of the Indus Waters Treaty - A brief History

Despite criticism, the treaty has lived through three wars, a number of military stand-offs and the rising tide of water nationalism fueled by friction between Indian and Pakistan. Photo: Reuters/Danish Ismail A little over 60 years ago , on September 19, 1960 , the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) was signed between India and Pakistan to share waters from the Indus rivers system (IRS) . After years of negotiations between representatives from India and Pakistan, which were mediated by the World Bank , Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru went to Karachi, the then capital of Pakistan to sign the Indus Waters Treaty along with the Pakistani head of state, General Ayub Khan. The vice president of the World Bank, W.A.B. Iliff also signed the document. Nehru hoped that the agreement would bring prosperity to peasants on both sides, and peace, friendship, and goodwill between India and Pakistan. Unfortunately, this did not happen as relations between the two countries remai...

Financial Action Task Force (FATF)

Context: Pakistan has resorted to its usual tactic of some high-profile actions in the run-up to the FATF plenary to create the impression that it was delivering on its counter-terror financing commitments.  It is again looking to China, Malaysia and Turkey to help it get off lightly for failing to fully implement an action plan to tackle terror funding when the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) assesses its case in October. Ahead of FATF’s working group and plenary meetings between October 18 and 23, the Asia-Pacific Group (APG), a regional affiliate of the multilateral watchdog, reviewed Pakistan’s actions to counter-terror financing and money laundering at a virtual meeting on September 15 and 16. Pakistan is unlikely to be moved from FATF’s grey list to the black list, despite mounting frustration among the watchdog’s members over its repeated failure to deliver on the action plan. At the virtual meeting, China expectedly backed Pakistan’s actions to counter-terror financing,...

Enter the QUAD - Here Is How India Is Making Smart And Silent Moves To Counter China’s ‘String Of Pearls’ Strategy

India has been moving quietly over the past few years to counter China’s ‘String Of Pearls’ strategy to encircle India and limit its role in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). Indian Navy needs much more empowerment today as compared to ever before. The Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) that India signed with Australia on 3 June is the latest in a series of such deals that New Delhi has been inking with friendly countries to foil China’s expansionist designs and hegemonic tactics in the IOR. These agreements are force multipliers for the Indian Navy and allow the country’s naval ships to operate far beyond the country’s shores. With these, the Indian Navy has become a formidable capable of maintaining open sea lanes, upholding freedom of navigation and the (UNCLOS).China has been often and justifiably accused by many countries of violating UNCLOS and not adhering to an international rules-based order. Indian Army deploys troops with shoulder-fired air defence missiles near China border

(Representative Image | Credits: Freshers LIVE) The Russian-origin air defence systems are used by both the Indian Army and the Air Force and are supposed to be used when the enemy fighter jets or choppers come close to own locations or deployments during hostilities.  The Indian side has also enhanced its surveillance through the deployment of radars and surface to air missile systems to keep track of the enemy air movement there. While building up in the Eastern Ladakh sector including areas such as Galwan valley and Patrolling Point 14, the Indian forces had observed that a number of Chinese choppers had tried to come inside Indian territory near the flashpoints. Join the geopolitical dots: US hints at banning TikTok, takes pro-India stance in Ladakh

The latest ban on 59 China-linked apps has sent a signal to the West that India is prepared to take bold decisions to protect its security and sovereignty against an increasingly belligerent neighbour.   US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo In banning 59 apps of purported Chinese origin – a move that was, presumably, made in retaliation to the disturbing events that unfolded on June 15 that lead to the deaths of twenty Indian soldiers at the Sino-Indian border in Eastern Ladakh – Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a definitive statement that India was prepared to employ unconventional means to resist undue pressure from China. Since the COVID-19 outbreak, China has displayed a remarkable degree of aggression on numerous fronts. From the boundary dispute in the Himalayas, to maritime encroachment in the South China Sea, to the controversial national security law passed in Hong Kong, and, more recently, in inflaming territorial discord with Bhutan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has...

China is trying to ‘bully’ India against building road in Pangong area

China gains no particular strategic advantage by positioning themselves at Finger 4 other than 'land grabbing', according to India's defence and security establishment. Representational image of China's People's Liberation Army | Photo: Justin Chin | Bloomberg The Chinese move to position itself between Finger 4 and Finger 8 of the Pangong Lake, a total of 8 km inside India’s Line of Actual Control (LAC), is bullying tactics to stop India’s road construction activity , sources in the defence and security establishment said. According to sources, while a road from Finger 2 to Finger 4 is something that has been in the works for long, a fresh attempt was being made by India. “To travel from Finger 3 to Finger 4, the Indians have to do so by foot through a narrow track. An attempt was being made to build a proper track to Finger 4 which was being objected to by the Chinese ,” a source said. India-China Military standpoints at Pangong Tso lake - 'Fingers 1- 8...
