Indian Defence Minister: Manohar Parrikar

Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar, generally known as Manohar Parrikar is the current   defence minister of India. Its about two years when Prime Minister Narendra Modi chosen Mr. Parrikar as Defence Mininster and since he has proved to be the most upfront and pro-active minister in the Modi Cabinet. Education: Mr. Parrikar completed his secondary education from Margao in Marathi . In 1978, he went to graduate in metallurgical engineering from IIT Bombay. He was the first IITian to become a chief minister of an Indian state (Goa).  Political Career: Manohar Parrikar joined Bhartiya Janta Party in 1988. His career got startup when he was elected the Second Legislative Assembly of the State of Goa in 1994.  He served as General Secretary & Spokesman, Bharatiya Janata Party on the Goa State from 1994 to 2001. India aims to get drones from US

Getting some lethal armed drones from the U.S. like the “Predator” will be the agenda of Indian Defence Minister visit to Washington. But acquiring drones from U.S. is not an easy task due to tough U.S. policies.  The   Predator   is an American   unmanned aerial vehicle   (UAV) produced in 1995 used primarily by the   United States Air Force (USAF), Italian Air Force , Turkish Air Force, Royal Moroccan Air Force and   Central Intelligence Agency   (CIA). Predator is developed by General Atomics GNAT and the unit cost is  US$4.03 million.

Agenda for Manohar Parrikar’s visit to Washington

Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar as scheduled , departed on a 4 day visit to the U.S. Signing for the long pending Logistic Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA) will be main top agenda of the visit. “The two governments are also likely to continue discussing strategic topics ranging from climate change cooperation, national security and counter-terrorism, priorities in the Indian Ocean region as well as top economic priorities such as positioning U.S. companies for success at the sub-national level. In particular, the commercial track of the dialogue will continue to see heightened focus on ease of doing business, the U.S.-India partnership on tourism, developing a digital infrastructure, and roundtables on infrastructure and clean energy,” said Mukesh Aghi, president, USIBC (US India Business Council).
