The army plans to induct 800 women into the military police with a yearly intake of 52 women who will serve as personnel below officer rank. The Indian Army on Saturday inducted the first batch of women into the Corps of Military Police , the first time women have joined the military in the non-officer cadre, officials said. Women have been serving as officers in select branches of the three services since the early 1990s. “The Corps of Military Police Centre & School (CMP C &S) at Bengaluru held the attestation parade of the first batch of 83 women soldiers at the Dronacharya Parade Ground on May 8. The parade was conducted as a low-key event while observing all Covid-19 protocols,” the army said in a statement. The Indian army will be inducting women in its rank-and-file for the first time in the coming weeks with the training of the first batch of women cadets in the Corps of Military Police (CMP) scheduled for completion in the next few weeks in Bengaluru. The cadets began their 61-week training on January 6, 2020. And, even as the passing out parade of the first batch is yet to be held, more than 4,000 women had applied to be part of the CMP in the recently held rally by the Indian army. Those selected from this rally would be part of the second batch of women in CMP. So far, the army had only women officers in certain streams and this is the first time that women will be inducted in the non-officer category. For the first time in history, Indian Army has deployed female soldiers for internal security and combat duties near the line of control with Pakistan, reports TOI.    Zee News   The women platoon is from paramilitary force Assam Rifles and has been stationed in the Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir. These 30 woman soldiers are led by Captain Gursimran Kaur of the Army Service Corps (ASC), who is a third-generation military officer of her family. “Deployed at security checkpoints leading to the LoC, the women soldiers are also being used for crowd control and frisking of women because there are intelligence inputs of weapons and drugs being smuggled across,” TOI quoted the officer as saying.
