Air show held at Sulur Air Force Station

The Indian Air Force (IAF) organised an air show at the Air Force Station, Sulur  On Friday to mark the golden jubilee celebrations or ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ of the victory in 1971 India-Pakistan War. A release said that the ‘Air Fest 2021’ began with the display of the indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft Tejas Mk-1, which was inducted into service at Sulur in May 2020. This was followed by the operational displays by An-32 transport aircraft and Mi-17 V5 helicopters. The aerobatics demonstration by the IAF’s Surya Kiran and Sarang teams concluded the air show. The air show was followed by static display of aircraft along with various armaments and equipment at the Air Force Station for the school and college students who witnessed the event, according to the release. PM Modi pays tribute at National War Memorial on Vijay Diwas

Defence minister Rajnath Singh and home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday extended their wishes to countrymen on the occasion of the Vijay Diwas. The ministers saluted the bravery and courage of the Indian Army. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday paid tribute at the National War Memorial in New Delhi on the 50th anniversary of the 1971 that made Bangladesh an independent country. The day is celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’. ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ - a symbol of victory - was also lit by the Prime Minister. There are four such mashaals or torches which will be carried to various parts of the country, including to villages of Param Vir Chakra and MahaVir Chakra Awardees of 1971 War. The entire year is being celebrated as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ to commemorate the golden jubilee of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. High tide by high tide, INS Viraat is pulled to the shore, to its end

INS Viraat is the second aircraft carrier to be broken in India in the last six years. In 2014, INS Vikrant, which played a crucial role in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, was dismantled in Mumbai. As Sunday brings another high tide, INS Viraat will be winched closer to the shore in Alang, speeding up the breaking of the iconic aircraft carrier. For a week now, dismantling of the carrier has been on at the Alang ship-breaking yard in Bhavnagar, with over 250 workers starting work from the ‘ski jump’, or the curved ramp, side, from where aircraft used to take off from the ship. “About 5 per cent of the ship has already been broken,” said Mukesh Patel, Chairman of the Shree Ram Group which bought INS Viraat as scrap. Patel added that they had started the dismantling as the weight of the 28,223 ton-carrier has to be lessened before it can be pulled closer. “The ship is about 600 feet away from the shore right now,” he said. INS Mysore, which made stellar contributions during the Western Fleet Operations of 1971 War. The Southern Naval Command (SNC) headquartered at Kochi, in Kerala will kick start a series of events in the following weeks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India’s victory in the 1971 War against Pakistan. This year is being celebrated as the "Swarnim Vijay Varsh" (Golden anniversary year) as the SNC's is set to roll out several events that are lined up between December 4 to December 16.
