Indian Army's recruitment rally for relatives of Army personnel ends in Srinagar

Recruitment rally of the Indian Army The recruitment rally of the Indian Army for relatives of the Army and ex-Army personnel, ended on Friday at Light Infantry Centre in Srinagar. Around 3,000 candidates from all districts of the union territory took part in the three-day rally from March 24 to 26, to get placed in the Indian Army. The physical fitness tests in the rally included a 1.6 km running test, chin-up tests, zig-zag balancing, nine-foot ditch jump and physical measurement test (PMT).  Aimir Mukunmir, a participant from Kupwara, said: " I have passed the race, My father has served the country. I always wanted to join the Indian Army and serve the nation, I feel good now." "This is my dream and I have got the support of my family to join the army," he added. Remembering the Battle of Budgam, Indo-Pakistan War - 1947 The Battle of Budgam was a defensive encounter which took place at Budgam in the Kashmir valley on 3 November 1947 between troops of the Indian Army whose strength was just around 50 and tribal raiders from Pakistan who were 500+ in number during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. The battle was significant in that one company of 4th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment under Major Somnath Sharma , who won a posthumous Param Vir Chakra , halted the momentum of advancing tribal "lashkars", though being killed to the last man and caused heavy casualties on the attacking force. Construction of 14 km long Srinagar-Leh Zojila tunnel begins with the First Blast - 15 years after project was first conceived

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways - Nitin Gadkari initiated virtual ‘ceremonial blast’ of the tunnel Thursday. Once complete, it will provide year-round connectivity between Srinagar and Leh. One year anniversary of Article 370's abrogation: What changed for Jammu and Kashmir

Representative Image Union Home Minister Amit Shah on August 5, 2019 had announced the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Parliament, which resulted in the bifurcation of the state of Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories. A year on, section 144 has been imposed in Srinagar to prevent some terrorist outfits from marking the day as a 'Black Day' also to keep a check on the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the UT. According to a circular issued the district magistrate, the section 144 has been imposed for August 4 and 5. The abrogation of Article 370 and 35A has extended the reach of Parliament and Indian Constitution over the region effectively ending the autonomous status and provisions where they could make their own laws on most issues.
