Transgenders may soon be recruited as CAPF combat officers; MHA sets ball rolling

Representative Image Transgenders can soon aspire to lead combat troops in central paramilitary forces as the government is mulling allowing them take the annual UPSC exam for recruitment as officers in these forces deployed across the country for various internal security duties, officials said on Thursday. Sources in the security establishment told PTI that with the central government notifying the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act in December last year it is now essential to provide transgenders a "level playing field" in all avenues and services including combat policing. India Deploys More Troops Along Line Of Actual Control, Navy, Air Force Raise Alert Level

The Indian Navy has also been asked to raise its alert-level in the  Indian Ocean Region where Chinese Navy has been making regular forays.   Army has rushed in more troops, weaponry to bases along Line of Actual Control (Representational) Frontline bases of the Indian army and the air force along the nearly 3,500 km border with China were put on high alert on Wednesday in view of the worst border clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Galwan Valley that left 20 Army personnel dead and several injured, government sources said. Representative Image Recent "uncoordinated" acts of violence in North Kashmir are "signs of desperation" by terrorists which are not finding resonance among people who want to get out of the cycle of violence, a fact visible in the sharp dip this year in the recruitment of local youths in terror groups, a senior Army officer has said.
