Success for Make in India! Hindustan Shipyard boasts a healthy order book, says the outgoing CMD

Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, which has been focusing on `Make in India’ a big success has undergone a significant financial turnaround and in the last four financial years has posted profits. These profits came after a gap of almost four decades. Talking about the order book of the yard, the outgoing CMD of the Shipyard, RAdm LV Sarat Babu, in a conversation with Financial Express Online said “The order book is good. The yard is resently building for the Indian Navy two Diving support vessels costing about Rs 2500 crores, as well as four 50 tonne bollard pull tugs costing about Rs 250 crores.” The yard is also working on ships and vessels for the Indian Coast Guard, DCI, the Fisheries department and for other private companies. Make in India: Indian and Turkish shipyards close contract for building FSS ships for the Indian Navy

Representative Image The Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is going ahead with Turkish shipyard partner M/S Anadolu shipyard after signing a contract with them for technical collaboration for enabling the shipyard to build five fleet support ships. Confirming this, a senior official said that “The total initial estimated project cost is about Rs 10,000 crore for the 45,000-ton fleet support ships (FSS) for the Indian Navy. The contract with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is expected to be inked within the next 6-8 months.” “Though the contract is between the two shipyards, it is a good sign that the Defence ministries of both countries are onboard for this `Make in India’ project.” As was first reported by Financial Express Online in 2019, the Turkish Shipyard was L1 and had technically qualified for the FSS project for the Indian Navy. India To Deliver Myanmar’s First Ever Submarine As Both Nations Heighten Maritime Cooperation

 Kilo-class submarine INS Sindhuvir | Image Srce : The Print  Myanmar is likely to get its first ever submarine this year as India is set to hand over a Kilo class boat to the country after refitting it indigenously. According to the report, the Myanmar Navy, which is looking at acquiring its own submarine fleet in the coming years, will use the INS Sindhuvir for training purposes. The Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) is modernising the INS Sinduvir, a Kilo class submarine brought from Russia in the 1980s, in Vizag. The modernisation work is reportedly expected to be completed by the end of this year. The submarine will be fitted with indigenous systems to train the Myanmar Navy. As per the report, the submarine transfer is likely to take place with a line of credit that India had extended to Myanmar for increasing military capability.
