More firepower to IAF, 3 more Rafales to be added to fleet

The three new additions will add to the current fleet of eight Rafale jets. Three Rafale combat aircraft will arrive in India on Thursday after flying non-stop from France, an Indian Air Force official said on Wednesday.   The three Rafale combat aircraft, manufactured by French company Dassault Aviation, took off from Istres in France on Wednesday. The Indian Embassy in France tweeted that three more Rafale jets have taken off from Istres for a non-stop flight to India with mid-air refuelling. "Adding more strength to India's air power. Wishing our amazing pilots a smooth flight and safe landing with superb fighter jets," the Indian Embassy said. With three more aircraft, the IAF will now have 11 Rafale jets in service. Further, Indian Air Force pilots are being trained in batches at the Saint-Dizier air base in France. IAF test fires air-to-air missiles ahead of Rafale integration

Acquired from France, MICA is an all weather missile system available in both short and medium ranges. Represent ative Rafale-14  Image Amid a protracted stand-off along the LAC, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has accomplished a secret mission by conducting several rounds of air-to-air missiles that have recently been acquired from France and Russia from a frontline fighter aircraft off Odisha coast. Defence sources said anti-air multi-target MICA missile fired from Sukhoi-30 MKI for the first time successfully destroyed expendable aerial targets (EATs), demonstrating its stealth capabilities. Ahead of the planned integration with multi-role combat aircraft Rafale, the IAF test fired two rounds of Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile MICA on Monday and Tuesday. #WATCH : Five #Rafale jets in the Indian airspace, flanked by two Su-30MKIs (Source: Raksha Mantri's Office) pic.twitter.com/hCoybNQQOv — ANI (@ANI) July 29, 2020 The fighter aircraft took off from Kalaikunda airbase ...

Indian Air Force's Lethality To Get A Major Boost With Induction Of At Least Five Rafale Jets By July End

At least five out of the first batch of 36 Rafale fighter aircraft are likely to join the Indian Air Force (IAF) by July end, providing it much-needed muscle amid a depleting fighter strength. The Indian Army is stretched between its northern borders with China where it is locked in multiple standoffs with the Chinese People's Liberation Army, while in the western borders it is busy tackling the increasing cross-border firing and infiltration bids by Pakistan-based terror groups. Rafale Fighter Jet (Dassault Aviation) In either case, it is air power that could tip the balance. The first batch of five Rafale will be inducted at the Air Force Station in Ambala on 29 July subject to weather. The final induction ceremony will take place in the second half of August 20. "IAF aircrew and ground crew have undergone comprehensive training on the aircraft, including its highly advanced weapons systems and are fully operational now," IAF said. Post arrival, efforts will focus on op...

Induction of BVRAAM Astra into IAF fleet will turn the odds in India's favour against Pakistan

HIGHLIGHTS The IAF is in the process of inducting the DRDO's Astra missile into its fleet.  |  Photo : PTI Along with the Meteor missile, India's indigenously made Astra missile, will allow the IAF to regain the air strike superiority it surrendered to Pakistan post the Kargil War. Pakistan's AIM-120 C-5 AMRAAM missile, reportedly, has a maximum range of approximately 105 km. The MICA has a maximum range of just 50km, and the R-77, supposedly Russia's answer to the American missile, has a range of  80km. The Astra, with a reported range of 100km, will prove to be a fine addition to the spine of the IAF's fleet. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has begun the process to procure and induct the indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Astra missile into its fleet. Along with induction of the Astra, it is also currently integrating the Israeli I-Derby Extended Range missile on its Su 30 MKI. Speaking to the media, IAF representatives explained that, along with the medi...
