Navy inducts Predator drones on lease from US for Indian Ocean surveillance

The two US Predator drones are operating out of the Indian Navy's INS Rajali airbase and were inducted under a lease agreement with the American vendor in the third week of November. File photo of a US Predator drone. Indian Navy has inducted two American Predator drones on lease from the US to carry out surveillance in the Indian Ocean region. Capable of carrying out surveillance for more than 30 hours, the drones are operating out of Indian Navy's INS Rajali airbase. These drones have been inducted under a lease agreement with the American vendor. As part of the deal, the vendor has deployed a team to guide the personnel operating the Predator drones. In fact, the American Predator drones could also be made available to Indian forces deployed along the LAC in eastern Ladakh where India and China are engaged in a military standoff. Women deployed on Combat Duty near LoC by Indian Army, for the First Time

For the first time in history, Indian Army has deployed female soldiers for internal security and combat duties near the line of control with Pakistan, reports TOI.    Zee News   The women platoon is from paramilitary force Assam Rifles and has been stationed in the Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir. These 30 woman soldiers are led by Captain Gursimran Kaur of the Army Service Corps (ASC), who is a third-generation military officer of her family. “Deployed at security checkpoints leading to the LoC, the women soldiers are also being used for crowd control and frisking of women because there are intelligence inputs of weapons and drugs being smuggled across,” TOI quoted the officer as saying. Indian Army to place order for 72,000 American assault rifles

Amid the ongoing dispute with China over boundary issue, the Indian Army is going to place another order of 72,000 Sig 716 assault rifles from the United States. Sig Sauer Assault Rifle The order for the second batch of the assault rifles would be coming after the first lot of 72,000 rifles, has already been delivered to the Army for use by troops in Northern Command and other operational areas. "We are going to place an order for 72,000 more of these rifles under the financial powers granted to the armed forces," Defence sources told ANI. The Indian Army had received the first lot of Sig Sauer assault rifles to boost its counter-terrorism operations. India had acquired the rifles under the fast-track procurement (FTP) programme. Nine terrorists eliminated by the Indian army in Kashmir valley in the last 24 hours

Three soldiers of the Indian Army have died and five terrorists killed on Sunday during an anti-infiltration operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said. Sources said four more soldiers have been injured during the operation to flush out infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of the district, which was launched two days ago.  The army said the operation is still underway.  This joint operation is being conducted by 41 Rashtriya Rifles, 57 Rashtriya Rifles, 160 Territorial Army and Special Operations Group (SOG), Kupwara teams.  The army’s action took place on the fifth day of the search operation in which terrorists were being searched in the forests of Kupwara.  During this campaign, there was an encounter between the army and the terrorists in the Rangdori Bahk area in the forests near the Line of Control on Sunday morning.
