30% women in 1st major Army recruitment rally

The Indian Army’s first major recruitment rally since the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country will see nearly 14,000 candidates screened over the next eight days in Bengaluru. Nearly 30% of these candidates are women who are aspiring to join the Corps of Military Police (CMP) , which, earlier this year, became the first army branch to have women in its rank and file. Male candidates will be selected for various roles spread across the army. Tuesday, the first day of the nine-day drive, saw more than 1,000 women being screened. An officer from the Karnataka and Kerala sub-area overseeing the rally, “Last week there was an open rally in Ludhiana, but the numbers were not as many. This is the first major rally the army is conducting after Covid and we have women candidates from all five southern states and men from Karnataka.” Trials are being conducted to select jawans and the first three days have been dedicated to screening women candidates. Karnataka's Kodava district becomes only place in India to have three Lieutenant General serving in Army

Lt Gen Cariappa became the Corp Commander and the District boasts of rare distinction of three Lieutenant Generals serving the army simultaneously. Kodava is a small and beautiful mountain district of Karnataka and is well known in the world for coffee and its “brave warriors”, men and women, serving in all services. Talking only of Indian Army there are 90 posts at the rank of Lieutenant General. Lt Gen PC Thimmaya and Lt Gen CB Ponnappa are the other two generals. Indian Air Force ready to assist during wildfires

Representative image. (AFP Photo) The Indian Air Force is ready to assist the Forest department by offering helicopter service, in case of any forest fire incidents, during the summer ahead. Air Marshal T D Joseph, Indian Air Force, has written a letter to T M Vijay Bhaskar, Chief Secretary, Government of Karnataka, in this regard recently. In the letter, he has assured that the assets of the Air Force would be readily available as has been the precedence, to provide all assistance to the Government of Karnataka in tackling forest fires. Bandipur Project Tiger director T Balachandra told DH, the army helicopter from Coimbatore, would come to our rescue if a wildfire is spotted at Bandipur, Nagarahole, BRT, Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and other places.  Source : Deccan Herald
