India is looking to procure the ShinMaywa Industries US-2 amphibian aircraft for search and rescue duties.

Japan's MoD spokesperson said,"On the US-2 Japan and India have agreed to accelerate consideration between both defence authorities. In order to move on the stages of discussion on specific conditions of cooperation, Ministry of Defence hopes that the Indian side will establish its procurement policy as soon as possible".

"After India has determined its procurement policy we would like to flexibly respond to requests from India, and make our co-operation concrete." spokeperson said.

ShinMaywa US-2: It is Japanese large STOL amphibious aircraft designed for air-sea rescue work.
