Over a year-anda-half after setting up its missile subsystem manufacturing facility on the outskirts of the city, Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS), a joint venture between Kalyani Group and Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, is set to scale up its operations in Hyderabad by opening a maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO) for missile systems, Rudra B Jadeja, chief executive (Hyderabad), Bharat Forge Defence, said here on Saturday.
The construction work of the MRO facility, which is being touted as a first-of-its-kind to be set up by a private sector player in India, has commenced. He, however, did not disclose any financial details of the project. The facility, which will cater to the domestic market initially, is also expected to also cater to foreign markets, especially Asia-Pacific region, in the future, he added.
After getting all the requisite licences and clearances from both, the governments of India and Israel, Jadeja said that KRAS has started work on the MRO unit at the hardware park at Shamshabad, where the JV’s missile subsystem manufacturing facility is already operational. The missile subsystem manufacturing unit was set up at an investment of around Rs 70 crore (around $10 million) and was inaugurated in August 2017.
During the launch of the plant in Hyderabad, Baba Kalyani, chairman of Kalyani Group, said that Hyderabad is the epicentre of the missile ecosystem in the country.
