‘Third Mistake After Uri and Pulwama Will Cost Them Dearly’, PM Modi Warns Pakistan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday warned Pakistan saying that the neighbouring country knows that if they commit third mistake after Uri and Pulwama, they will have to pay a heavy price.

“What used to happen earlier? Terrorists used to come from Pakistan, attack us and Congress government used to cry before the world that we’ve been attacked. But this is new India. When terrorists attacked Uri, brave soldiers of the country conducted surgical strike there. When they committed the second mistake in Pulwama, we entered their home and conducted airstrike. (Udhar walon ko bhi samajh mein aa gaya hai ki agar teesri galti hui to lene ke dene padd jaenge),” PM Modi said while addressing a rally in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad.

Referring to the air strikes by the Indian Air Force (IAF) at Balakot, Modi said, “Pakistan and its supporters have been threatening us for long with its nuclear capability but the IAF called its bluff with its strikes. Those days are gone when India would give in to threats. This is a new India and it will strike terrorists well inside their hideouts across the border.”

He also accused the Congress and its allies of criticising him every single time for highlighting India’s security situation and said, “They do so because they never fully trusted the country’s defence forces. Congress always restricted our Army from going all out against terrorists. It has used the defence forces only for income generation, be it Bofors or helicopter deals. The Congress and its allies keep politics above the security of the country.”

In a retaliatory action following the terror attack at Army camp in Uri sector on September 18, 2016, that left 17 security personnel dead, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes on the intervening night of September 28 and 29 on terror launch pads across the LoC killing dozens of militants.

Earlier this year on February 26, India avenged the Pulwama Terror Attack by carrying out a ‘pre-emptive and non-military’ strike on Pakistan’s soil. The strike is said to have killed nearly 300 terrorists. The following day, Islamabad made a failed an attempt to target military installations in India in which one MiG 21 was lost and an IAF pilot went “missing in action”. However, the pilot was brought back from Pakistan, a day after.

Retirement Age of Troops in Army, Air Force & Navy Set to Increase, Says CDS General Rawat

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has said that the retirement age of jawans in the Army, airmen in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and sailors in the Navy will be extended as it could benefit nearly 15 lakh men of all three armed forces.  “We are soon bringing a policy to extend the service profile of the men (forces nomenclature for troops) and have an increased minimum retirement age,” said General Rawat in an exclusive interaction with The Tribune yesterday. On being asked if he was looking to cut down the manpower costs as rising salaries and pensions were taking away a large portion of the budget, General Rawat said, “I am looking at manpower costs. Why should a jawan serve for just 15 or 17 years, why cannot he serve for 30 years? We are losing trained manpower.”  Easing fears that this policy would change the age profile of the fighting force, he said that the frontline combatant could be young. “We have an Army Medical Corps, why can’t the nursing assistant serve ...
