India celebrates 71st Army Day in Pune



The Army Day is celebrated every year on 15 January to mark the taking over of the Indian Army by the first Indian Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General (Later Field Marshal) K M Cariappa, OBE, on the 15 January 1948. He took over the reins of the Indian Army from Lieutenant General Sir Francis Butcher, KBE, CB, MC, the last British Commander-in-Chief.

The day is marked by ceremonial events all over India.To commemorate this momentous occasion, the Southern Command organised a wreath laying ceremony at National War Memorial at Pune to pay homage to those who made supreme sacrifice while safeguarding the sovereignty of the nation.

The event was graced by Lieutenant General SK Saini, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command who laid the wreath in remembrance of the martyrs. On this 72nd Army Day, the brave officers and soldiers of the Southern Command resolve to uphold the glorious traditions of the Indian Army and to preserve the integrity and security of the nation.

Indian Army looking for new armoured vehicles for Ladakh, Tata among contenders

Humvee and American Stryker Infantry Combat Vehicle are the two others who are also being considered by the Indian Army to deliver such vehicles. ‘Disengagement an intricate process, needs constant verification’: Army
