IAF Airmen Recruitment Physical & Medical Standards

IAF conducts ST (Schedules Test) and Recruitment rally to recruit Airmen. The recruitment process is carried out each year. Here, you will be reading about physical and medical standards required to become an Airman in IAF.

Airmen selection process consists of written test, aptitude test, physical test and medical test. IAF gives much importance to physical and medical fitness of Airmen candidates. This is the main reason why they carry out thorough physical and medical tests.

In order to be considered eligible for Airman training, a candidate must satisfy some physical and medical standards! The standard required may vary from one trade to another.

AIRMEN PHYSICAL STANDARDS

IAF has laid out some basic physical standards a candidate should satisfy. Here they are :

  • Weight should be in proportion to height and age
  • Minimum chest expansion should be 5cm
  • Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters by each ear separately
  • Candidate should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points
  • Candidate should have no medical or surgical deformity and should be free from all communicable diseases & skin ailments

DETAILED MEDICAL STANDARDS

Retirement Age of Troops in Army, Air Force & Navy Set to Increase, Says CDS General Rawat

Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat has said that the retirement age of jawans in the Army, airmen in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and sailors in the Navy will be extended as it could benefit nearly 15 lakh men of all three armed forces.  “We are soon bringing a policy to extend the service profile of the men (forces nomenclature for troops) and have an increased minimum retirement age,” said General Rawat in an exclusive interaction with The Tribune yesterday. On being asked if he was looking to cut down the manpower costs as rising salaries and pensions were taking away a large portion of the budget, General Rawat said, “I am looking at manpower costs. Why should a jawan serve for just 15 or 17 years, why cannot he serve for 30 years?
