After UNGA, Will Malaysia Again Support Pakistan To Evade FATF Blacklisting?

It will be interesting to observe Malaysia and Turkey during a meeting of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) later this month in Paris. Both the nations openly backed Pakistan at the UN General Assembly) last week and are expected to support Islamabad again. The meeting of the global money laundering and terror financing organization is scheduled for October 13-18. It will decide whether Islamabad will continue to be in its ‘grey list’ or downgraded to the ‘blacklist’. Pakistan has been on the ‘grey list’ of the FATF since June 2018, and it needs 15 of 36 votes to exit that list. Attracting such support will be an uphill task according to experts talking to EurAsian Times. With the help of its traditional ally, China, Malaysia and Tukey, Pakistan managed to evade the FATF blacklist for the time being in its June meeting. According to experts, Pakistan is pinning its hopes on China, Malaysia and Turkey after its PM, Imran Khan, failed to impress other FATF member-states during meeti...

Mountain Strike Corps Starts Testing New Concept

India’s 17 Mountain Strike Corps is currently engaged in an exercise to validate the concept of a swift offensive in the high Himalayas along the border with China. While an integrated exercise by the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force took place in Ladakh late last month, 17 Corps, headquartered at Panagarh in West Bengal, is in the middle of a month-long exercise ‘Him Vijay’ to test its ability to move, deploy and launch limited offensives in the mountains, much quicker than ever before, military sources have said. This exercise comes on the back of the annual ‘Op Alert’ that both the 3 and 4 Corps—based in Tezpur and Rangapahar respectively, and looking after the entire stretch of Arunachal Pradesh border—carry out post-monsoon and before the onset of winter every year. Exercise ‘Him Vijay’ will pit three Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) of the 17 Mountain Strike Corps against brigades from 3 and 4 Corps to test the new concept of IBG deployment, as reported earlier in July Each IB...

Ordnance factory unions reject committee offer

Unions in ordnance factories have unnamioulsy decided to oppose the terms of reference for the high level official committee (HLOC) formed to study the proposal on corporatizing the ordnance factory board (OFB). In the first meeting held by the HLOC, the unions have said that they altogether reject the terms of reference which include examining the proposal to corporatize the organization. The unions have said the only point of discussion could be on steps to be taken to achieve a Rs30,000 crore order book target for the factories. The three unions in a joint note said the proposal to corporatize OFB cannot be accepted as it is not a viable plan at all. The orders from the armed forces fluctuate from very high to even nil. In such a case it is not financially viable for corporation to operate. The unions have cited the example of BSNL which is now under distress. The unions have stressed that the OFB can achieve the Rs30,000 crore order book target even in the existing structure as a g...

Indian Army tanks now have sharper night vision equipment developed by DRDO

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has indigenously developed Thermal Imaging and Day Sight equipment to arm the tanks in Indian Army’s inventory with a sharper night vision, ThePrint has learnt. The night vision equipment, to be installed in the T-72 and T-90 tanks, is meant for a clearer night vision even in pitch darkness. It will have a higher range of sight as compared to the existing technology, said a DRDO official. It can be used for both day and night operations, and also boasts of superior image processing features at any given time of the day. Further, it will serve the same purpose on both varieties of tanks, only the mechanics would be different, added the official who didn’t wish to be named. Out of an order of about 1,000 units of the night vision equipment for the T-72 tanks, nearly 300 have already been delivered to the Army, said the official. For these tanks, the equipment will have a 3-km range for tank targets. The night vision equipment being...
